Forget about the topics, the South of Spain has thousands of places and natural spaces you will not find in traditional tourist routes. Trekking, skate, Roman thermae, cabrillas, burgaos (snails)... If you are looking for something different, you will find it all in this kmtriko route.
We will not speak about flamenco shows, nor about the smell of orange blossom in its streets, "gazpacho" nor of its Torre del Oro, in this visit to Sevilla you will go everywhere but where tourists go. Let's start visting the Plaza del Museo. Every Sunday there is a street market where a lot of painters get together, something like the Sevillian Montmartre. The same bohemian style but with a different flavour. You will find many different styles, important painters and young artists full of expectations. You can't miss it.
Do you like skating? Then you cannot miss the Skate Park in the Plaza de Armas, where you can meet real rollers and bicycle fans. Bridges, cuarter pipes, ramp, transfers, fun boxes of different height... the finishing of the premises prevents scratches, but the bad thing is that it preserves the heat... Watch out for too sunny days! If you are burning out, visit the Aquópolis… this time you will slip down the waves of pools and water chutes! You can buy your ticket just here.
And before leaving the city and going on with our KMTRIKO itinerary, relax yourself in the Roman thermae Aire de Sevilla (http://www.airedesevilla.com/). Enjoy with your friends of a nice and relaxing bath in thermal waters in an unique 16th century palace... get a massage, have a tea... that's life!
After the city, it's time to enjoy of some sun and sea in Barbate, where you can visit the best beaches in the Atlantic coast. Zahara de los Atunes, Caños de Meca, El Palmar… they are all waiting for you! Get ready to practice aquatic sprots, specially Windsurf or scuba diving, or maybe you prefer to avoid crowded places and go visit with your friends the La Breña natural park or the marshes. Do you like History? Then you must visit the cape Trafalgar, where in 1805 the famous battle against Nelson's armada took place.
We promised you an atypical trip to the South, so take your KMTRIKO and move on to Facinas, still don't know it? Then get ready to walk, because this little village has incredible hiking routes Here are some of them, and remember to get more information on their starting points:
1. Salaviciosa Banks Route, it will take you to prehistoric monuments and amazing landscapes... don't forget your camera!; 2. Mariano Throat, an itinerary through a Mediterranean forest and low mountains; and 3. Roman Ruins of Baelo Claudia, this is a slightly longer itinerary than the other two, but it's definetely worth it.
Are you hungry now? Facinas' bread, also known as "pan macho", is very famous. It is manually made of dark flour in the mills of the area. Taste it along with a good piece of wild boar chorizo or a corsican stew, in Farinas you'll find loads of hunting products. And if you want to taste something really curios and natural, ask for a "quesillo" in any restaurant... and then tell us what you think about it!
And to end up our atypical itinerary through the South of Spain, get the bus back and come to Al-Yazira, “The Green Island”… never heard of it? It's Algeciras! One of the biggest Mediterranean harbors and Europe's gateway to Africa. During summer the city holds several festivities, but the most spectacular one is that of Nuestra Señora de la Palma, patron saint of the city. A group of scuba divers rescue a sculpture of the Virgin from an underwater cave where it rests during the year, and takes it to the Rinconcillo Beach to clean it and start celebrating!
In this same beach you can visit the Roman Furnaces, dating from the 1st century, but if you want to see more, don't leave Algeciras without stopping by the ruins of the Aljama mosque, the Andaluisian Baths or the Ingeniero Torroja Market, a real engineering and architecture work of art... you'll be surprised!!
Want to eat something apart from the typical fried fish? Try the "cabrillas", a plate of "burgaos" or "papas con choco". Bon appétit!
