At the end of June, from 24th to 29th, Soria wears its best clothes to celebrate its famous “Sanjuanes”. For five days and six nights, the town is divided into 12 gangs which devote themselves to maintain entertaiments such as bullfights, cauldrons, processions and brass bands.
Wednesday night, the Townhall square becomes too small to host all the people who wait anxiously the public announcement and the cheers: "¡Viva Soria! ¡Vivan las Fiestas de San Juan!", which are the starting signals for the fiesta. There is a long and wild night ahead, prelude of the Great Day: On Thursday "la Saca".
At dawn you will see the official start of La Saca, that is, the moving of cattle from Valonsadero Mount to la Vega de San Millán. People will wait on the rocks, in the bars or on the pens' walls for the twelve bulls to come out, one per gang, surrounded by aplauses, wildness and a lot of running. La Saca is a genuine entertainment that no visitor can miss.
Tired of fiesta? Regain your breath in any of the motels or hotels in the area, there is still a lot of amusement ahead: Bullfighting on Friday, Saturday in Agés, Cauldrons on Sunday and Dancing Monday to finish the fiestas to the sound of: “Fuimos a la Compra, fuimos a la Saca….”
During your stay in the city, you can approach one of the great painters ever born in Aragón visiting the exhibition and interpretation center which hosts “Espacio Goya”. Painting rooms, audiovisuals, an engraving workshop, facilities and warehouses constitute one of the best examples of the enlargement architecture of 1908 Expo.
